In 2004, in the south of the Istrian peninsula, Irena and Bruno Trapan started making wine. Their winemaking philosophy is driven by the idea of creating characterful, honest and modern wines that faithfully convey the specificities of the Istrian soil. What sets Trapan apart today is its complete turn toward demanding biodynamic production. Respecting the natural rhythm, the soil and the vine, the family crafts wines with minimal intervention and a firm imprint of terroir.

The winery today farms 12 hectares of its own vineyards on the Cuf site. The vines grow here at altitudes between 55 and 75 metres, on a distinctive soil of skeletal terra rossa rich in limestone deposits. The vineyards are planted in equal measure with the indigenous varieties Malvazija Istarska and Teran, alongside premium international varieties Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which on this soil yield grapes of unmistakable freshness and minerality.

Annual production is around 25,000 bottles, and the cellar releases top-class wines split into several highly regarded ranges. The flagship is the aged Malvazija Uroboros, which has been crowned with the prestigious title of the world’s best aged Malvazija. World class is confirmed too by Terra Mare, named the best mature Teran. Alongside these award-winning wines, the offer is marked by the powerful MOIA label and the outstanding sparkling Bik, while the fresh Ponente, the red blend the ONE and Irena’s cab perfectly round out this striking portfolio. The tasting room is open to all guests every day from noon to 6 p.m. and by appointment.
